The Living Word

Several years ago I attended a Sermon at West Acres Baptist Church. The subject was on John 1-5 (roughly). It must have hit home with me because I still remember it. It was eye-opening about the Word of God. I learned something very important that day. In plain language… the WORD is JESUS. Read it with me:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:1-5 NIV)

Now let’s go back to a phrase VERY early in the Bible that my ring a bell…

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. (Genesis 1:1-4 NIV)

Just a fun little fact about the scriptures for you to noodle on. When you hear the “Word of God” understand that it not only refers to the written Word, but he Spoken Word, AND the LIVING WORD… Jesus.

It’s tough being a Christian sometimes, right? I know the rest of the world believes that as a believer that you sit around campfires and sing songs about praising God forever. Also, as a believer, we know that following Christ is nothing like that altruistic view the word has of us. Following Christ is about adventure. And what’s a good adventure without a little danger?

Our walk will be faced with many battles and struggles because we still have an enemy. That enemy, as I was reminded on the Daily Audio Bible this morning, was defeated as Christ completed His work before, during, and after the cross. Regardless, the devil was allowed to remain for a time and during that time he can make life a living hell for us… IF we allow it. Yes… he cannot harm us unless we allow it. Unless we agree with it. Sounds bizarre, doesn’t it?

In church this Sunday I was reminded of something. When we are feeling doubts we must seek the source of doubt and feed the truth that fights doubt.

So during the struggles you face as a Christian or the struggles you face as just a person living life remember a few facts.
1.) God has already won
2.) We are a fulfillment of that promise
3.) As believers of Christ, we are joint heirs to the Kingdom of God
4.) The devil cannot harm us unless we allow it

All of these are true… even when they don’t feel true. Hold on to that today as you face your struggles. You are not on the winning team you are on the team that won. That is evident in our reading from Luke today. Now walk around in that for a while!

If this message blesses you, share it.

God Bless…

Count Your Blessings

I heard something the other day that struck me as interesting and a few days later I’m feeling it’s truth…..

“You’ll be judged more swiftly when talking spiritually.”

A few days ago I was in the home of a family that had just lost a mother, a wife, a grandmother, and the care keeper of everything important to them. Taken from this family suddenly and without notice. U-N-F-A-I-R. That’s the word that the husband used to describe the timeline of events in his life. He told me that his wife was his everything to him and his family. He said that he’d never paid a bill, never written a check, and certainly never cooked a meal. Married for 42 years and he said, “she was the love of my life.” I walked into that house feeling down that day, I walked out of that house feeling blessed to have what I have. Sometimes in life people are put in front of you that may not believe in what you believe in. That man told me that day that if I had faith I’d better rethink things because he had faith and God took his wife from him. In an instant I thought of those words……

“You’ll be judged more swiftly when talking spiritually.”

As I’m writing this my daughter is in my bed sound asleep, my son is watching a basketball game and he’s updating his status on Facebook, my dog is taking a nap next to me, the temperature in the house is 72 degrees, and there is food in the refrigerator. I would say my life is pretty good.

Oh…… I’ve rethought my faith and I think I’m doing just fine.

Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

How Close Are Your Steps?

Today we meet Gideon. A mighty man of God. BUT… what happens before Gideon accepts God’s commission for him. Pain, struggle, and strife. But why? Are these not God’s chosen people? How could God forsake His own chosen people? How could God let them be attacked by their neighbors?

These are all questions that I’m sure the Israelites asked too. But look closer at what has happened. God instructed the Israelites to destroy ALL neighbors or they might turn to their gods and take on their ways.

That is precisely what has landed them in
